Step 3: Purification and Enlightenment

This 6-week period involves purifying minds and hearts through several liturgical rites.
First Scrutiny and Exorcism: During the 3rd Sunday of Lent Mass

Presentation of the Creed: During a daily Mass in the 3rd week of Lent

Second Scrutiny: During the 4th Sunday of Lent Mass

Third Scrutiny: During the 5th Sunday of Lent Mass

Presentation of the Lord's Prayer: During a daily Mass in the 5th week of Lent

Preparation Rites: Easter Vigil morning

The Period of Purification and Enlightenment ends with the Celebration of the Sacraments during the Easter Vigil Mass.

Period of Purification and Enlightenment

This is a short time of retreat-like preparation during Lent.
Ask the parish office for a Journey of Faith Enlightenment Booklet. There is also a teacher's guide available for the sponsor.
The Elect should memorize the Lord's Prayer and Nicene Creed.
Sponsor Tips
If there is practice for anything, only the sponsor should attend.

Gift idea: Give the elect a personalized baptismal candle at their baptism (notify the parish office if you do).
